October 15, 2013 declared as a regular holiday

President Aquino has declared October 15, 2013 (TUESDAY) a regular holiday all throughout the Philippines. This is in connection with the celebration of Eidul Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice among our Muslim brothers. Eidul Adha is one of the two Muslim feasts that is a holiday in the Philippines.

PROCLAMATION NO. 658

DECLARING TUESDAY, 15 OCTOBER 2013, AS A REGULAR HOLIDAY THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY, IN OBSERVANCE OF EIDUL ADHA (FEAST OF SACRIFICE)

WHEREAS, Republic Act No 9849 provides that Eidul Adha shall be celebrated as a regular holiday;

WHEREAS, Eidul Adha is one of the two greatest feasts of Islam;

WHEREAS, the date of the festival is based on the declaration made by Saudi Arabia’s highest religious body;

WHEREAS, the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF) recommended that the observance of Eidul Adha be on 15 October 2013 and the Eidul Adha prayer be performed on the final declaration of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia;

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO III, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Tuesday, 15 October 2013, as a regular holiday throughout the country, in observance of Eidul Adha (Feast of Sacrifice).

IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the Republic of the Philippines to be affixed.

Divina DeDiva fired from her teaching job

I was reading several articles on different websites about Divina DeDiva (Photo above) and I read from International Business Times that this girl has been fired from her teaching job as assistant teacher. It was also found out that the school where she was employed are run by Filipino supervisors. Karma? Agad-agad?

Well, I think Ms. Divina should apologize to Miss World 2013 Megan Young, and to all Filipinos in general, for making insensitive and racist comments.

Here’s the latest statistics of Jehovah’s Witnesses religious activities in the Philippines as reflected in their website. These figures are for the year 2010 and are taken from their website except for the fourth column (RATIO). I added this column just to have a picture of the percentage of contribution of the Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Philippines to the worldwide work.

Notes:

1. Obviously, there is a difference between a peak Witness and a baptized member of the religious organization. There are 171,910 Peak Witnesses for 2010 and the ratio of Jehovah’s Witnesses to the Philippine population is 541. With simple arithmetic, one could calculate that the Philippine population for 2010 is 93,003,310.

2. All indicators reflect that the contribution of Jehovah’s Witnesses in the Philippines to the worldwide work is between 2% and 3%.     

 3. Jehovah’s Witnesses are really serious with the number of hours they contribute in preaching the Word of God in their local congregations known as the Kingdom Halls of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

October 28, 2013 is a special non-working holiday in the Philippines

October 28, 2013, which falls on a Monday, has been declared a special non-working holiday by President Aquino by virtue of Proclamation No. 656, series of 2013. Barangay elections will be held on that day. Filipinos will exercise their right of suffrage  and this is the time to elect officials in the barangay level.

WHEREAS, it is important to give the people the fullest opportunity to participate in the said elections and exercise their right to vote.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, BENIGNO S. AQUINO, III, President of the Philippines, by virtue of the powers vested in me by law, do hereby declare Monday, 28 October 2013, as a special (non-working) holiday throughout the country for the Synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) Elections.
