3-MCPD is a chemical compound found in soy sauce. It is carcinogenic if the content level of this chemical exceeds to what is required by human consumption. Any soy sauce product must pass the standards set by the FDA.
TV Patrol of ABS-CBN conducted a test buy operation and of all the soy sauce brands available in the market today, two of these brands failed on the safety standards – i.e., these soy sauce brands contain high level of 3-MCPD. However, the news program did not reveal these two brands.
