UP Manila and CIM topped the August 2011 Licensure Examination for Physicians

University of the Philippines - Manila and Cebu Institute of Medicine topped the recently held licensure examination for physicians administered by the Professional Regulatory Commission (PRC). Both schools registered 100% passing rate; UP Manila has 144 examinees while CIM has 50 examinees.

Among the Top 10 performing students, Mark Augustine Saquido Onglao of UP Manila placed 1st in the examinations with a rating of 88.42%.

Congratulations to our new physicians!

Philippines may soon be natural gas exporter because of Benham Rise

Wow! I have read an article tonight in Yahoo! News about the so-called Benham Rise, an underground sea region off the coast of Aurora and Isabela provinces in the northern Luzon. If the United Nations approves the claim of the Philippines, an additional 13 million hectares will be added to the present 30 million hectares that defined our national territory.

According to government authorities, this particular area is rich in natural gas resources which could make our country an exporter of natural gas in the future!

Go for the gold, Philippines! Back off, China! Back off from Spratlys!

PS: The Philippines is the ONLY CLAIMANT of the area. I pray that God will soon prosper our country through this Benham Rise.

Stolen MSI laptop, Samsung digicam, and Nokia cellphones

When someone stole my laptop last week, digicam, and cellphones I asked God to let the culprit suffer from (anything). Today I realized that it was not what God wants me to do. I then requested God not to hear my selfish prayer (binawi ang request, hehehe) I asked five days ago.

It was not really painful that I don't have my gadgets anymore. Those things can be replaced any time soon. In fact, I already bought a new cellphone. Before this month ends, I want to buy a new digital camera, and I should have a new laptop before this year ends. Savings, savings, savings. What is hurtful is that I lost all my files in my laptop, including my thesis for master's. It's good that I have a hard copy for chapters 1-3 but the rest? Nothing! I need my thesis files! But what can I do? Start all over again. I have learned a lot from that incident.

May God bless the person who stole my things and I pray that the thief would realize his mistake/sin and that he won't do that again to other persons. Man by nature is good, so I believe there is still a room for change for him.

Holidays for the month of August 2011

Hey, folks!

I want to share with you information about holidays for this month. As per Proclamation No. 84 signed by President Aquino, there are three holidays for the month of August this year. These are:

1. August 21 (Sunday) - Ninoy Aquino Day
2. August 29 (Monday) - National Heroes Day
3. August 30 (Tuesday) - Eid'l Fitr or End of Ramadan

All these are regular holidays so even if you will not report to work (for working), you would still be paid 100% of your daily wage. If the management requires you to work on those days, you'd receive double pay each day.

It will be a long weekend. Enjoy!

60% of respondents approve Reproductive Health Bill

Two months ago, I posted a poll online regarding the issue on Reproductive Health (RH) Bill in the Philippines. About 60 percent of those internet users who answered the poll said they approved RH Bill while 30% did not approve the passage of the bill. The remaining 8 percent of the respondents simply chose the third option which is "I don't care."

Based on this online poll, I could sense that many Filipinos want Reproductive Health Bill to be approved by the Congress. I also posted the same question over Facebook and an overwhelming 87% approved the said bill.

While I did not consider any statistical measures on this survey, this online poll is a good source of information on people's opinions regarding this hotly debated issue in our country today.

Thought for Today

On my way to work, I was able to write the following quote while riding in a jeepney.

--The King's Rebel--

Happy Filipino-American Friendship Day!

The Philippines is commemorating the Filipino-American Friendship Day today. It was former President Diosdado Macapagal who moved the original Araw ng Kalayaan ng Pilipinas from July 4 to June 12 in 1962. Before 1962, we were celebrating Philippine Independence Day on July 4. July 4 then became Filipino-American Friendship Day which coincides the Independence Day of the United States of America which is known as The 4th of July.

My wish is that Filipinos and Americans will continue our strong friendship as democratic nations. Congratulations to the American people for celebrating their Independence Day today and to all Filipinos around the world!

Top 10 Most-Visited Websites for April 2011

Here's the TOP 10 most-visited websites for April 2011 according to Double Click Ad Planner by Google. Using my Samsung Digital Camera, I took a photo shot for each website (main page) except for YouTube .

This social networking site has 880 million unique visitors or users with 910 billion page views! Amazing! No wonder why Friendster decided to discontinue its operation as a social networking site recently. Friendster will be focusing on online gaming instead.

Note: Beware of scams in Facebook!
Do I use this website? Do I have an account? Both, YES!

YouTube places second with 800 million users. Search for any video, be it comedy, TV shows and commercials, you'll find them here. In fact, I am one of the 800 million users who registered an account with YouTube.

Places third in the list is Yahoo! If you want to know the latest news, use Yahoo! I recommend it for your internet research as well as a search engine just like Google. And hey, I also have an account with Yahoo! - that is, my Yahoo! Mail. There are 660 million users of Yahoo! as of April 2011.
TOP #4. www.live.com
With 550 million registered users of live.com, it is certainly one of the sources of traffic on the web. I use three services of Live.com: Windows Live Writer for writing drafts for my blogs, Windows Photo Gallery for my pictures and videos, and Windows Live Movie Maker for editing videos and making clip presentations. So cool, so good!

A combination of online dictionary and encyclopedia, Wikipedia is a great source of information on different subject areas for me. Though not everything should be treated as true and scientifically correct, the website warns the reader that a particular information might be inaccurate, and thus, it needs some sort of refining and validation. It has 490 million unique visitors. This is the ONLY website among the Top 10 websites which doesn't have any advertising.

TOP #6. www.msn.com

Landing on the 6th position is the MSN.com website with 450 million users worldwide. I have an MSN Messenger before but I closed the account since I do not have friends who use it. Filipinos still prefer Yahoo! Messenger.

One of the websites I frequently access almost everyday is www.blogspot.com. Today, I am maintaining four (4) blogs and all of them are hosted by Blogger. I really like it. I am planning to purchase my own domain name with Blogger. It has 410 million users around the world. Blogger itself is in Top 77 with 42 million users.

Of the Top 10 websites, this is the only website I am not familiar with.  I search the word over Google and here's what I found from Wikipedia:

Baidu is a Chinese web services company which offers many services, including a Chinese language search engine for websites, audio files, and images.

TOP #9. www.bing.com

This search engine has 340 million unique visitors as of April this year.

Want downloads for your operating system, softwares, etc? You need to visit this website. Just make sure you have a Geniune Microsoft Operating System or else the website will tell you that you are a victim of software counterfeiting. :-)
