THE MOTHER FAK-YUL-TEE

THE MOTHER FAK-YUL-TEE
By Marlon B. Raquel

No salary,
No compensation.
More than a month
Of frustation.

O Mother Fak-Yul-Tee,
Bear with our hardships.
O agony! O agony!
Help us pray

The system
Is full of mystery.
Her people
Are living in misery.

Hear the cry
Of your constituents!
If not, if not O Mother Fak-Yul-Tee,
Just kick our asses and set us free!

Is God Blind?

Premise 1: GOD IS LOVE.

Premise 2: LOVE IS BLIND.

Conclusion: THEREFORE, GOD IS BLIND.

Is this correct? Logically speaking, the above statements follow the logical pattern of syllogism. But there are things in this world that cannot be explained by philosophy nor the physical sciences. God is beyond the physical nature of man. He is incomprehensible even to the most intelligent human specie in the world today. God, in His infinite wisdom and love, became human to save the world from eternal damnation. Jesus Christ died on the Cross of Calvary for our sins. Premise 1 is absolutely correct. Premise 2 is a manifestation of man's limited comprehension of the things around him. The conclusion shows how foolish the philosophy of man is that could bring to him. GOD IS LOVE, nothing more, nothing less!

You

“YOU”

When I was A little kid,
Who knows no thing about life and love.
A kid who only knows how to play around,
And that love was just a game.

One day I fall in love,
But I got played and fooled
That’s why I don’t want to fall in love anymore
And I fear that I might get hurt again.

Suddenly you came
You change everything in my life
What I know about love
And what I don’t know about life.

I will fall in love again
And its you, who teach me,
But please be careful with my heart
Because this heart only be yours till the end.

One

"One"

"When, I saw you for the first time
I knew you were the one.
You didn't say a word to me.
But love, was in the air."

"Then you held my hand
Pulled me into your world
From then on my life
Has changed for me"

"Now I'll never feel lonely again
Coz you are in my life... "
"Love...How can I explain to you
The way I feel inside when I think of you..

I thank you for everything that you showed me.
Don't you ever forget that I love you."
maybe...this is our fate..."
Love, I know that someday real soon

You'll be right next to me.
Holding me so tight.
So I will always be yours.
Although we can't be together now.

Remember I am here for you."
"And I know you're there for me.
Whenever I want to be with you
I just close my eyes and pretend you're near

I see you, I touch you, I feel you, like real"
"Nothing can ever change what I feel inside."
"How long must I be far away from you?
I don't know dear, but I know we are One...

Friendship

Friendship
By Argie May Aprueldo

“The essence of friendship is entireness,
a total magnanimity and trust.”

One of the most beautiful human attachments is friendship, friendship between a man and another man, between a woman and another woman, and between a man and a woman. Its springs from one’s need to share his activities, his thoughts, and his feelings with another whose interests and sympathies are akin to his. Friends are really birds of the same feather, which can fly together towards the same beloved heights of thoughts, imagination and fancy. Over cups of coffee such flight may be made. Others more physically inclined would swim together and even fight together. If friendship was born in childhood, its bonds with common interests in the men is gorged deeper or stronger with the poignancy of common memories built thru the years and summoned by such magic words as, “Do you remember…?” there is nothing would not do for or give to a friend. Nothing in the last piece of bread to his own life would a true friend not offer to his friend.

True friendship should not be mistaken for what it is not. It is not true friendship that one sees in flattery and cajolery whose ulterior aim is gain or favor. It is not true friendship that the mouth of professes but the deeds belie. It is not often not true friendship that is avowed with great profusion of words and gestures, for sincere affection is deep and silent, not even needing words to convey itself.

Like all other human attachments, friendship is often sinned against. The first of such abuses is the imposition by one party on the other of demands that, on account of friendship, may not be refused. It is a virtue for a person to give whatever he has to his friend, but it is not a similar virtue for one to make on his friends’ excessive demands especially if such demands would entail pain and sacrifices from the giver. It is no great love that cares not to hurt knowingly; no great love that would receive rather than give.

The gravest sin one may commit against a friend is betrayal, the betrayal of sacred confidences. A person is disposed to tell all his secrets to his friend, to open all his heart and soul to him as he would to no other, even his wife, perhaps. Should the friend who has been allowed to enter such secret chambers come out of them and tell the whole world what he has beheld therein? Of course not, and yet many have acted otherwise and violated such sacred trust.

Is Man Truly Human?

Is man truly human? This is a question that remains a puzzle for many people throughout generations. If your answer is yes, then prove your argument. What then is the composition of man that makes him human? If your answer is no, defend your position. Isn't man synonymous with being human? Dare to philosophize. This is a noble act of questioning.

Skepticism

Skepticism
By Ivan Alexies Ancheta

In practice, the goal of skepticism is not the discovery of truth, but the exposure of other people’s errors. It plays a useful role in science, religion, scholarship, and common sense. But we need to remember that it is a weapon serving belief or self-interest; we need to be skeptical of skeptics. The more militant the skeptic, the stronger the belief.

For You Are The One

For you I would climb
The highest mountain peak
Swim the deepest ocean
Your love I do seek.
For you I would cross
The rivers most wide
Walk the hottest desert sand
To have you by my side.
For you are the one
Who makes me whole
You've captured my heart
And touched my soul.
For you are the one
That stepped out of my dreams
Gave me new hope
Showed me what love means.
For you alone
Are my reason to live
For the compassion you show
And the care that you give.
You came into my life
And made me time I see you
My heart skips a beat.
For you define beauty
In both body and mind
Your soft, gentle face
More beauty I'll ne'er find.

Our Simple and Little Ways

Our Simple and Little Ways
By Peejay Herrera

Last sembreak, I was in Dumaguete with my brother, cousins and other relatives. We went to the beach until night comes. My brother, for lack of doing something, he decided to start a fire near our cottage.

There was one log left over and he tried all he could to set it ablaze. He used crumpled newspaper and burned it under the log. He added more newspapers to feed the fire. Still, the log didn’t burn. So he added more, and more, and more. Until he used up all the newspapers we have that night. Not wanting to accept defeat, he took a bottle of alcohol and cover the log with alcohol. The alcohol burned out but the log remained fire-resistant. After an hour, he finally got a blaze going.

What did I learn from this experience? First, that my brother won’t have a successful career as an arsonist or those criminals who burn houses or buildings. And second, it is not that easy to burn down a house.

It’s the same thing with the Earth. When God created it, it was build to last. So it is not easy to destroy it. In a magazine, I found 10 ways you could destroy Earth completely. None of them are possible unless you have the power of the justice league and the brains of Einstein and Newton combined. But 6.7 billion human being who lived without caring for their environment could be dangerous. I also read from that magazine that in the past two years, humans have damaged the environment in a massive way in the last 50 years than at any other time in human history.

Me, destroy Mother Earth? How do I do that? When we burn our trash in the backyard, we release toxins that will harm our environment and our health as well. When we litter, some of our garbage ends up floating in our seas which destroys corals that took hundreds and thousands of years to make. When we use up more toilet papers and other sanitary materials than we need to, these mean that more leaves and trees have to be cut down.

There are just SIMPLE AND LITTLE WAYS we can help and they might not seem a lot. But if you, I and everyone of us will take our role seriously, maybe we can help managing and protecting our Mother Earth.

The Test of Time

The Test Of Time
By Bryan Aguilar

I still see your face in my dreams
It hurts and it doesn't help at all
I still want you in my life as crazy as that seems
I want you to catch me when

I still remember the first time we met
There was something so different about you
Your friendship was something I wanted to get
That smile when you said hi to me was so new

Out of no where you called me on the phone
I wanted to sit there and talk to you forever
You were so new, so crazy and unknown
I just knew that our friendship would never sever

Two years and we are barely holding it together
What happened to the way this all used to be
I never wanted you out of my like ever
I sat there for a long time pretending not to see

We decided to go out and make it all all right
It didn't work out of course we knew it couldn't
We couldn't even really stand each others sight
It shouldn't end this way but it did and I shouldn't

I miss you and everything you were to me
Ten years from now we will look back on it all
We will be older and finally be able to see
That love will stand the test of time and never fall

Thinking of You

Thinking of You
By Gristelle D. Marzan

The night is so cold
And I’m thinking of you
I am now too old
But I still loving you

I keep on reminiscing
The moments we shared
It is you that I’m missing
And the times we spared

Life was ungrateful
We didn’t last long
But I am hopeful
That again you will come along

Like Romeo and Juliet and Casanova
I promise to you that we will dance together in Bosa nova

Philosophy of the Week

Philosophy for the Week

Don't try to cover the dirt in your face by using powder,
And be yourself as you are and don't be afraid of showing it of!

This philosophy always comes in my mind this week. I don't know why I am afraid of accepting the fact that. These things are simple but very hard to do. When we are conscious in our appearance we always say that we cannot please someone.

2nd Week Application

Prelim Examination Week. Many things happened. Stresses appear in every student that is busy in their lives. Sometimes were forgetting to call God for help. It's easy for us to say that we love God but how can we prove that it is true if in just a single matter of saying the truth we lie? After our examination, its Ash Wednesday, we decided to attend a mass. In the sermon of the priest he always telling that we should slap our face to wake up in the fact that we should know. When I heard it, I think I am one of the people he talking with that matter. I think what I always want is to praise. In fact I am happy doing it always. Now I realized that things are possible if we are sincere dong it. For God nothing impossible if we have faith in him.

A DARK DAY

A Dark Day
By Mr. Anonymous

Being here is not a lucky thing because it is dark, cold and quiet. Before I met you, my life is not complete but happy. But when I met you at first you is just an ordinary friend to me. Time goes by and I felt a little happiness when I’m at your side. At first I thought it is normal but then and then I felt that I’m falling for you. And when I collect all the guts I have, I finally say that I’m in love with you even I know that you have a boyfriend but I can’t force my heart not to love you and then it happens. I pick to stay by your side and love you even I know that you have a human boyfriend. And then months past by and many things happens, things that we can’t imagine. And then that this time has come, you left me. This time I feel lonely and I think the world left me behind by not thinking the status of one of my friend back in my high school. He is in darkest part of his life. After all my life now is not that dark. Please join me to pray for the goodness of condition of my friend Francis Edward Resoor. Thanks for the prayers…

Murmurs of the Sea by Nikko Borac

Murmurs at the Sea
By Nikko P. Borac

As the sun awakes in its horizon’s line,
And the morning falls, and then the sun goes shine
I touch its blowing wind and then feel its breeze
Makes my body and soul, feel shiver and freeze

I hear the sound of the murmurs at the sea,
Like a beast crippling in the trunks of a tree
I saw the sea creatures playing as a child,
Endangered to creatures on the land of wild

From the deep blue sea I hear a lovely voice,
A beautiful song of siren that rejoice
Above the water, I saw a chirping swan
Swaying through the currents like a turtle’s run

Finally, the night falls then the sun went west,
A tempest starts and whirlpools formed at rest
I feel the doom at the middle of darkness,
Destroying the entire sea and its mildness

Series of strong waves touches us and calls,
Like an angry mob raging to high great walls
I feel the power of the Poseidon’s wrath
Turns the sea water into a venom bath

I’m awaken from darkness of yesterday
And I see those dead creatures like a dead prey
I took my hand into the heart of the sea,
I cannot feel its beat, so the end… I see

Then I close my eyes so I can hear something
Those lovely voices from a siren who sing
Murmurs at the sea whose voices are angel,
Will never heard again, until all us fell

My life is filled with sufferings and pain

But even though at times, the world is against me

I still feel lucky because You were there for me.

LOVE TAKES TIME

“Love takes time”
By Evie Mae Bautista

I can't imagine how the two of us started to know each other. All I know is there's something in you that make me feel fine. I believe that “love takes time”, because for me it is still best to wait for the one you love rather than settle for the one who is around because life is too short to waist on the wrong one. All I can say is take time to listen to your heart sometimes. You need not to ask yourself who you really love most. But ask yourself who really makes you happy and makes you fell love too. Because Sometimes loving could be so painful and difficult. But it’s amazing to know that no matter how hard it is. Loving someone is still the simplest reason why we always find our self smiling...!!

MY FAULT

MY FAULT
by Dale Pascual

It wasn't my fault for not knowing you.
It wasn't my fault when you came into my life.
It wasn't my fault to know you.
It wasn't my fault to love you.
But it was my fault to feel in pain right now, when you're gone.

Yah, I did love you! But you never felt nor even knew it.
Because loving you was the only thing that can make me happy.
As you inspired my life to go on.

And now it was my fault.
My fault on why my life is happening like this.
Happening because of you.

But still I’m happy.
Happy because, for JUST only a limited time, you let me know you.
Knowing you is my greatest mistake to be happy.
But it wasn’t my fault for letting you know me.

TO AN UNKNOWN KUYA (ENGLISH VERSION)

TO AN UNKNOWN KUYA*

By Marlon B. Raquel

*This poem was originally written in Filipino. This was translated into English by Jonathan Estrada, whom I consider to be one of my friends who is close to my heart.

In each chapter of life
Pain and hardship come your way
But if God be your guide

He will take away the hardship and turn them into victories

In each chapter of life
People come for different purposes and reasons
Others bring pain and sadness
But there are those who bring joy and will lead you to God

It is such a sweet and wonderful thought and feeling
When you have someone whom you can trust
Someone who understands your mistakes
Above all, someone who will love you without any reservations

O this friend whom I just came to know,
In the short time we were together
Through tears and laughter, he was always with me.
I earnestly pray that he not go away.

Whenever this friend of mine enters my thoughts
I cannot help but to shed a tear.
I treat him as my friend who is there to give me good advice.
Best of all, he became my true Kuya.

I call him my Kuya.
Affectionate, generous and loves to laugh,
I truly miss his hugs
That is why I shed a tear, whenever I remember him.

I would also like to thank another person
Who also became part of my life.
If not for him, I would not have been able to meet my Kuya.
It is also because of him that I learned many things in this world.

Life is indeed playfully unpredictable.
Undesirable events bring anxiety and fear.
Thanks be to Jesus, who is Pastor and Head.
Giver of joy and strength, His Holy Spirit is.

I pray to Almighty God
That He provide strength and vigor to him.
Even if my Kuya and I are apart for a long time,
I pray that nothing will hinder the desires of his heart.

My mind and my heart will never forget
The memories that my Kuya left
Though it be painful that I go away
I am ready to accept this circumstance because it is truth.

Kuya, if you go away, what will be left of me?
My childlikeness, when will it change?
Thank you so much
For coming into my life this early.

O God, our Guide on all things
I offer you our lives, us three
Your gift of love, brotherhood, and friendship
I will never forget, even in the life hereafter.

Doormat, No More!

Doormat, No More!
By Argie May Aprueldo

To nice for your own good?
One girl shows how she learned to speak up to yourself

The people who know me now would probably have a hard time imagining me being shy and reserved but believe me, I was shy. When I was younger, I hated it when people called me “Too nice.” Translation: “You’re a doormat, dear.” Perhaps it had something to do with the fact that I was the new girl in school. Suddenly, a sea of new faces surrounded me and I had to learn to get along with everyone. (On the first day of school, I distinctly remember being one of two girls not in uniform. I was mortified!)

It started innocently enough. I’d give way to others or let them borrow things. While I was trying my best to blend in with everyone else, I ignored that a little voice inside of me that rebelled against the docile and passive person that I was turning myself into. Gradually, I learned that my sharing nature had a number of drawbacks – I met girls, who wanted me to share a little more than I was willing to. They wanted me to share test answers and would give me little signals while the teachers weren’t looking. I found myself being used, and disliking confrontations. I became a pacifist. It must just so much easier to go along with everyone else, so much easier to go move with the wind and not against it. Like everyone else, I was afraid of rejection.

Unlike boys, girls are subtler when it comes to letting you know they don’t like you. And this very subtlety is even more scathing than an outright expression of dislike. I feared getting loathsome glare, the ostracism, and the deliberate loud remark behind your back. I saw it done to others and I didn’t ever want to be on the receiving end of such treatment. So I let things happen even if I didn’t agree with them and kept quiet even when I knew I should’ve spoken up. I lacked in the confidence department. But on the upside, my grades were all right. I adjusted as well as I do.

As year passed, the adviser of the class would tell the parents more or less the same thing. “She’s a really good student…yada yada yada… but she should speak up more” or “She needs to learn to express herself.” I swear the teachers conspired to say then same things. But of course, deep down, I always knew they had a point. By seventh grade, I was tired of it all. I was tired of being a nice girl. I was tired of letting other people have their away while I had to adjust. I was tired of not speaking my mind. It came to the point that I looked at myself in the mirror and I frowned at the girl I saw in the reflection. I couldn’t figure out who she was. And I knew I had to work through the shyness to find out. As trite as it sounds, I resolved that high school would be different.

I exerted a conscious effort to assert myself more. Whenever I felt I was about to lose my nerve, I’d ask myself, “What’s the worst thing that I could happen?” I knew I had something to offer and I wasn’t about to let a snide remark, a patronizing look, or my fear of being ridiculed keep me from reaching my goals. I stopped letting people step all over me. Was it easy? Oh, no. It took some getting used to. I also learned to take my cue from other girls who were more outspoken. I admired their confidence and intelligence and learned from them. In time, I found my own voice and relished being able to use.

I learned that my ideas and opinions were valuable and were appreciated. I gained confidence and learned to get along with different kinds of people without having to let go of my principles. I developed true friendships and shared with them the real me. It just goes to show how a conscious choice to change can really make a difference. I still do get those pangs of shyness and discomfort, but the difference is, I know how to deal with them. I also can’t say I know exactly who the girl in the reflection is. That will take years of experience to figure out. But you could say I have a better idea of who I am.

Just recently, I looked at myself in the mirror and found my reflection smiling back at me. I like the person I am today.

A Father Only In Name

A FATHER ONLY IN NAME

AUTHOR:
ABUID, LOU YSABEL NICOLE L

Today, we are aware that not all of us share the same idea about good and evil. It is because of various factors to consider; like different surroundings, groups, religions, cultures, habits, etc. But we know that though we have this great knowledge, we still have the common knowledge that certain aspect of responsibility and duty must be practiced accordingly.

Here is a common opinion that to preserve the dignity of a family as a home, the members must perform their duties and obey with their obligations within it. Here are some thoughts that the head of the family or the FATHER must stand for the maintenance of the so-called home, because if the father will not do his duty for sure the rest of the members will be demoralized and will be in danger. A real and true father is not a PHILANDERING HUSBAND to his wife, because if he is, their relationship will be in trouble.

A real father to his kids must be a good example for he is the most influential one to his family members. We are not saying that a father must be perfect but he should be in full responsibility and control of his actions so that the rest will follow his examples and be in the right track. The family is above personal and financial gains. It is not also a reason for a father to claim that he is BUSY FOR FINANCIAL FACTORS and leave his family behind because not everything is associated with money. What counts is that the father should be in the family and help his wife, rearing their children.

Think of the bad example that a father gives to his children, all of his sons follow his way of life and make wives miserable. This was discussed in the book entitle: WHY SHATTERED MARRIAGE? One very revealing fact has been brought to light by recent studies of representative groups all over the world, that Men have vices. Some smoke, drink but some men love to have MORE THAN ONE WOMAN IN THEIR LIFES. Chances are if the father is a philanderer, the SON may follow in his footsteps”. And “Marriage is no guarantee that a man, the husband or the father will commit himself to his wife and their kids for life. It takes hard work to keep marriage.”

With this that father must be a father in actions, in deeds and in moral entities not a father only in NAME.

POLITICAL KILLINGS
Author:

Manny S. Tejano
HUMA01/I2

It is very said to think the continuous killing of our friends that are members of the civil society group and in the media industry. This group has nothing to do, but to express their rights, grievances and complaints against to some of the corrupt leader of our government. That fact is who is executing this people? It is very clear, that in our constitution law it say’s that every one of us has the right to express our rights, grievances and complaints.

The family of this people suffers a lot, they don’t know if they can find justice to the victims. I’m asking favor to the government a prompt attention regarding this issue, also to the agency which the government assigned to solve this case, that they will conduct a fair investigation to these happenings. And I’ am hoping, that in the end justice will prevail.

"So many questions?..... I Need Answers!!!"

“So Many Questions?..... I Need Answers!!!”
by: Rico Baña

Each of us has a purpose or a reason that’s why we’re here.
Everytime that I’m alone, there’s many questions comes to my mind.
I know everyone had so many questions in life and
I’m one of those people who had so many questions.
That needs so many answers to those questions
Why? What? Where? When? and How?

The question of why I’m here?
Why Gods create me?
Why I’m studying?
Why I should be this?
Why do I love?
Why now not tomorrow?
Why it is the answer?

The question of what is my purpose of living?
What should I be?
What is my real goal in life?
What is my future behind those?
What is the answer?

The question where should I step?
Where is the love?
Where’s the freedom?
Where should I found the right one?
Where’s the answer?

The question when is the time to have the freedom?
When is the time for love and success?
When is the time to surrender?
When is the time for happiness?
When should I know the answer?

And the question of how to love right?
How to be successful?
How it affects me?
How do I able to survive on this world?
How should I know all the answer to all my questions?

“Hoping to have those answers in time”

WHAT IS BEAUTY IF THE BRAIN IS EMPTY?

YASAY, PAOLO JAY M,

HUMA01 – C2

There are so many physically beautiful girls but in mentally inside, they are not smart enough and have a bad posture. And that’s a turn-off for us boys. So, my word of wisdom is “What is beauty if the brain is empty?” from the word itself, beauty and brains. The girl should have that kind of stuff so that the people will amaze and be proud of!

Many of us boys are most likely to have a relationship with a beautiful girl rather than ugly or so-called simple girl, isn’t it? What if that girl is not that talented and can’t help you, instead, you will always help her to that kind of thing. I think the boy wants only to have a sexual relationship with the girl, right? So, if your beautiful, then prove it to the people that you’re beautiful, not just your poise, but your posture as well because it was a shame to you that you’re beautiful but doesn’t have brains. That was a bash to you!

What if I’m the girl and has that “good-looking” thing, I’ll be so proud because there are many girls wish that they have that type of physical figure. So, I will not put down that figure, study hard, and be truthful, honest… All the good postures should be in you!

I have a friend, and she’s my neighbor. She’s not beautiful that much but she has the brains to carry herself. Although I do not know her yet, I feel that she will be successful in
her life and be able to achieve her goal.

WHY I WANT TO BECOME A NURSE

Why I Want to Become a Nurse?*

*(I wrote this essay as requested by my friend in the US.)

Each of us chooses something for a reason. I am not an exception. The field of nursing has long interested me because of my compassion and desire to help those individuals who are sick. For one thing, I cannot afford to see any member of my family and friends to suffer from an illness or physical disability. I am well aware that to venture in such profession is risky and challenging at the same time. It is risky because I have to expose myself to different kinds of communicable diseases. It is a challenging because it covers a lot of subjects to be studied ranging from the human anatomy to courses like mathematics. But I am very much eager to accept such challenge in my life. In the first place, I love challenges. Being a nurse someday is the best vision that I could see upon myself.

Nurses are considered to be the backbone of health care in the United States. They play an important role by proving health care assistance to patients. I know from the fact that our world today is desperately in need of nursing professionals who will take care of the healthcare assistance of people. This is from the fact that there is a shortage of nurses, perhaps this is cause by the increasing number of population today. And in this aspect, I want to become part of this endeavor – to care for the needs of these people especially the elderly.

I would also want to become a nurse to educate patients how they should manage their sick family members at home. I believe that education is a vital component of man’s existence and that learning is an endless quest for knowledge. No other thing could be equally important I think that to teach people how to identify symptoms of diseases that need medical attention. This is an important role of the nurse as well as educating all people involved with the ailing person. Helping other people is priceless. One cannot buy help. Nurses will forever be remembered for the noble acts of goodness they do to people.

If I will be given a chance, I would also want to enhance my knowledge and skills by acquiring further training in nursing. I am willing to attend symposia, conferences, and pursue higher learning in nursing education. I think that I am physically, mentally, and emotionally ready for a new pace of my life in the field of nursing.

I know that there are so many professions today that I could choose from but the field of nursing appeals to my personality and capabilities as a person. No other noble task in this world that helping save the lives of other people.

LIFE IS NOT ALL ABOUT GOOD THINGS

Life is not all about good things. Sometimes (and for others, this may happen often time) we are being "harrassed" with problems and circumstances that lead us to discouragement. We should never expect to live without worries. The main fact is we are living in a fallen world.

But this doesn't mean we will never experience good things. It is up to us to reach the things we've been dreaming for. The future is for us. It belongs to us.

The Great Oblation Run 2007

Here comes another day of showcasing some flesh to the world--with the blood of nationalism in the hearts of the participants--The Great Oblation Run.

Here's what Wikipedia says about this event:

Today, the Oblation is commemorated annually during the Oblation Run....
Members of the Alpha Phi Omega, one of the prominent U.P. fraternities, run around the campus naked (a concept
known as streaking).

This is also done to protest their sentiments about a current political
or economic situation. The date, December 16th, was selected in honor of the
International Founding of Alpha Phi Omega.

Contrary to popular belief, neophytes are forbidden to run. "All those who run are full-fledged members who have volunteered" are allowed to run, explains Ojie Santillan, the fraternity's Auxiliary Chancellor. "There is a misconception that the Oblation Run is something our neophytes have to undergo as part of their initiation. That’s not true. We never allow our applicants to join."
